چکیده

In natural ecosystem plants are associated with endophytes. Endophytes are capable of producing extreme secondary metabolites that are used as biocontrol agents, immunosuppressive compounds, etc. (Tan and Zou, 2001). Endophytes have provided many useful compounds that are necessary in developing fields such as medicine, agriculture, biotechnology, etc. (Strobel et al., 2003). They may be seen in various habitats ranging from terrestrial to aquatic (Zhang et al., 2006). More importance is given to endophytes research because of declining global biodiversity, disappearance of species and ecosystem, etc. (Gimenez et al., 2007). Availability and composition of microbes present in the host plant depend on various factors. Plant interaction with endophytes leads to plant productivity, enhance soil health, nutrients uptake by the plant (Mei and Flinn, 2010), and defence against plant stress, disease and insects (Gao et al., 2010).

Diversity and Ecology of Fungal Endophytes in Tropical Forests

Fungal endophytes, ubiquitous among terrestrial plants, are especially abundant and diverse in asymptomatic foliage of tropical trees and shrubs_ As such, tropical endophytes are wjdely thought to comprise an important component of fl.!ngalbiodiversity at a global scale. Yet, neither the diversity of endophytes associated with even a single individual plant, nor the potential importance of host...

Transmission of Bacterial Endophytes

Plants are hosts to complex communities of endophytic bacteria that colonize the interior of both below- and aboveground tissues. Bacteria living inside plant tissues as endophytes can be horizontally acquired from the environment with each new generation, or vertically transmitted from generation to generation via seed. A better understanding of bacterial endophyte transmission routes and mode...

Impact of endophytic fungi on seed and seedling characteristics in tall and meadow fescues

Tall fescue and meadow fescue are naturally infected with fungal endophytes, Neotyphodiumcoenophialum and Neotyphodium uncinatum, respectively. Seed traits are an important measureof the effects of the endophytic fungi which has been less addressed. In this study we usedendophyte-infected (EI) and endophyte-free (EF) clones of tall and meadow fescue genotypes inthe field to investigate the effe...

Advancement in Endophytic Microbes from Medicinal Plants

This overview firstly highlights biology of endophytic microbes from medicinal plants as well as their chemistry with emphasis on the important merging of microbiology and natural products chemistry and its role in improving our current knowledge of endophytic associations in medicinal plants. Secondary metabolites of medicinal plants-derived endophytes reported in recent years are grouped acco...

Hidden fungi, emergent properties: endophytes and microbiomes.

Endophytes are microorganisms that live within plant tissues without causing symptoms of disease. They are important components of plant microbiomes. Endophytes interact with, and overlap in function with, other core microbial groups that colonize plant tissues, e.g., mycorrhizal fungi, pathogens, epiphytes, and saprotrophs. Some fungal endophytes affect plant growth and plant responses to path...
